August 2011 – NIH Revises Instructions for Appendix Materials on T32 Grant Applications

On July 28th, the NIH released a notice describing revised instructions for the Appendix on NSRA T32 Training Grant applications. Here is a quick summary of the changes, and the ways that Curvita helps you make the most of them:

The Appendix is NOT a means to circumvent application page limits. It may, however, include “other publications reflecting on the activities of the program as a whole” so long as they are not publicly available. This includes up to 3 of the following types of publications:

1. Manuscripts and/or abstracts accepted for publication but not yet published.
2. Published manuscripts and/or abstracts where a free, online, publicly available journal link is not available.
3. Patents directly relevant to the project.

The announcement also gives the following as examples of acceptable appendix documents that “are unique to training grant applications (but not typically included in research grant applications):

1. Syllabi for key courses, core courses and electives, including courses in Responsible Conduct of Research, Survival Skills for Research, etc.;
2. Retreat, seminar series, and other program activity agendas, rosters, and schedules (for the past one or two years only);
3. Examples of forms used to document trainee progress and monitoring by the program;
4. Examples of materials used in recruitment and particularly recruitment and retention to enhance diversity of the student pool;
5. Lists of meetings attended by students and their presentations (during the last two years); and
6. Student biosketches (current students only).

Curvita’s activity tracking and document generation capabilities allow the creation of many of these documents with just a few clicks. Course syllabi, event schedules and attendance, progress forms, and student biosketches are all well within Curvita’s capabilities. When the submission deadline is approaching and you’re looking for those extra additions that will give your application a competitive edge, make it happen with Curvita!

February 2010: Curvita Introduces NIH Grant Module

Curvita is proud to announce an exciting new capability which allows users to create NIH biosketches and T32 training grant tables in the latest PHS 398 formats.

It is well-known that creating proposals for NIH training grants is a tremendous undertaking. Gathering updated CV and demographic information for participating departments, faculty and students is difficult and it takes an inordinate amount of time and resources to compile the results for the many tables required.

Curvita now solves this problem by offering an easy-to-use dashboard for selecting participating departments, faculty, and trainees. The software then does all the work and creates your tables in the proper format, allowing you to edit before export to your full application as a Microsoft Word document or PDF.

December 2009: Microsoft Excel Integration Enhances Data Input to Curvita

The development team at Curvita has added a new way to rapidly input data into Curvita. In addition to linking directly to data in organizational databases and manual entry through the Curvita web interface, you can now input data into our Microsoft Excel templates for direct upload. After completing and importing the Excel template, Curvita verifies that information has been entered correctly and will give you the opportunity to review these changes before they are added to your profile.
